Long term cover with key inclusions

Here are just a few of the top benefits of our long term travel insurance policy. For a full list of inclusions, see the table of benefits at the bottom of the page and consider the PDS.

Two Years Of Cover For Canada, The UK Or USA

Most travel insurance policies only provide cover for a maximum of 12 months. And even if longer cover is available for working holidays, some other insurers will make you manually extend your policy for trips longer than 12 months. Pretty annoying, right?

What’s more, if you’re going to Canada as part of the IEC program, you need to be covered for the full duration of your two year visa before you can enter the country. That’s why our long term policy automatically includes two full years of cover, right from the get-go!

Unlimited Overseas Medical

You’ve probably heard horror stories about the sky high costs of healthcare overseas. And what if you also needed emergency evacuation back to Australia? Don’t stress! With our long term travel insurance policy, you get 24/7 Emergency Medical Assistance and unlimited cover for Medical and Hospital Expenses including Medical Transport and Repatriation.

Trip home due to a family emergency

Let’s face it. Leaving your family behind for two years can be tough. But what if you had to dash back home if something hectic happened to them? The good news is we provide cover for a trip home due to a family emergency. Plus, coverage is also included for the resumption of your journey back to the place where it was interrupted.*

side trips to other countries

If you’ve got a two year visa for Canada, The UK or USA, you might be eager to explore neighbouring countries. As long as the country is within the region on your policy, you’ll be automatically covered for shorter side trips.

For example, if you purchase our Worldwide excluding Americas option, this exclusion would still apply even for short trips to the Americas. But if you purchase our Worldwide Policy, you’ll be sweet to travel anywhere except Syria, Afghanistan, North Korea and Iran. Now that’s flexibility!

luggage and electronic devices

When you’re travelling overseas on a long term trip, you want to make sure that your luggage AND electronic devices are covered. Whether it’s your phone, laptop, tablet or camera, our long term travel insurance automatically includes cover for your electronic devices.*

Rental vehicle excess

Hiring a car or campervan gives you the opportunity to ditch public transport and do some exploring on your own schedule. But don’t make the rookie error of getting stung with high excess reduction fees on your rental vehicle. With itrek’s Long Term Policy, you’re covered for up to $4,000 of rental vehicle excess.

faqs

Do I need a two year visa to purchase this policy?

Yes, to be eligible for our Long Term Policy you must be an Australian resident with an approved two year (24 month) visa for either Canada, The UK or USA (and you must not have started your journey before purchasing your policy). Please note that you will need to provide proof of your visa in the event of a claim.

What does "Worldwide Excluding Americas" mean?

If you purchase the Worldwide Excluding Americas option, that means you won't be covered for travel to the USA, Canada, South America, Latin America, Hawaii or the Caribbean. But if you purchase the Worldwide option, you'll be covered for travel to all countries except Syria, Afghanistan, North Korea and Iran. Countries where the Australian government or any offical body has issued non-essential travel warnings are also excluded (see the PDS for details).

is my policy still valid if I return home for a short trip?

If you return home to Australia during your journey, your policy will suspend while you're at home. But returning home does not alter the end date of your policy and it will remain valid until the end date shown on your certificate of insurance. Full terms surrounding your Period of Cover are outlined in the PDS.

Am I covered for side trips outside of the country of my visa?

If you're planning a side trip to another country, make sure that it's within the region on your policy. For example, if you purchase our Worldwide Excluding Americas, you won't be covered for trips to the Americas (i.e. USA, Canada, South America, Latin America, Hawaii and the Caribbean).

Am I covered while I’m working overseas?

Purchasing our Long Term Policy automatically covers you while you're working as long as you're not participating in manual labour (please see the PDS for full terms and definitions).

How do I declare my pre-existing condition(s) under the Long Term Cover Policy?

If your pre-existing medical condition(s) is automatically covered (refer to the criteria in the PDS), you do not need to declare it under the Long Term Cover Policy. Unfortunately, if your pre-existing medical condition(s) is not automatically covered, you are ineligible to purchase the Long Term Cover Policy.

Can I add a pre-existing medical condition(s) that is not automatically covered under the Long Term Cover Policy?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer cover for pre-existing medical condition(s) for the Long Term Policy, except for automatically covered conditions, if the criteria is met. If your pre-existing medical condition(s) is not automatically covered, you are unable to apply for cover under the Long Term Policy. Please see the PDS for more details.
