Medical Travel Insurance
>> Medical Travel Insurance For The Merely Mortal
It’s your turn to take on the world. Perhaps you’re a bit on the nervous side – perhaps you feel invincible. Either way this is your time to really experience it all and have a ball whether it’s partying in Bali, experiencing cultures from the inside in South East Asia, volunteering in Africa or Central America, adventuring in Canada, or combining work and travel from your base in the UK – and it goes without saying you need the right kind of medical travel insurance for you.
Many emerging nations have hospitals, particularly in the regional areas, which are so challenged that medicines are scarce and the hospitals rely on families coming in with food for patients, and even providing some of the care. Not a pretty scenario if you fall seriously ill or have an accident without the means to be evacuated.
Yes, you can pay for the evacuation yourself but you’ll need to allocate tens of thousands in your travel budget just in case. Wouldn’t it be a pity to lose your dream of travelling more often when you can get cheap travel medical insurance that covers all those nasties? And you don’t even have to go out of your way to do it – just pick up a quote and your policy online.
iTrek are an Australian travel insurance company with extensive international travel medical insurance knowledge and know how. We operate wholly and solely online so our costs are way down, giving you at least a 10% discount over purchasing by phone or face to face and about 60% cheaper than through a travel agent. Travel insurance Medical Only is available to keep your premium down even further – our equivalent is our Bronze cover – and we provide 3 further levels of cover to suit any budget. Naturally all levels include unlimited hospital and medical and top flight emergency evacuation plus Personal Liability.
Like all reputable travel insurance companies we need to know a few details before providing pre existing medical insurance to assess the risks to you and the level of health travel insurance to suit your individual needs.
No – you don’t need to take our word about needing medical travel insurance when you only have to ask anyone who’s been there and done that. Ninety nine percent of experienced trekkers know they’re merely mortal and absolutely advise the safety net of foreign travel medical insurance. Naturally, we do too.

- If travelling to countries with ‘don’t drink the water’ status carry an absolute 1 micron filter and some iodine tables just in case you get stuck where you have no option but to drink the water. For preference drink the recommended bottled water with the seal still in tact.
- It’s estimated three times as many backpackers contract Hep A compared to ‘general’ travellers. That works out to about 18 - 1,000 but you wouldn’t want to be one of the 18 so follow all medical advice.
- While adventuring into the Sahara is packed with romance the reality is 50 degree days in summer below freezing nights in winter and huge strain on people and equipment. Never go it alone or in a pair and know the credentials and expertise of any company you travel with.
