Motorbike Insurance
Travelling on a motorbike or scooter when you are overseas is a great way to explore any country, and is one of the best ways of ensuring you have ultimate freedom on your journey. Rather than having to restrict yourself to bus or train timetables and main roads, your itinerary, route and the time you take is completely up to you.
There's something completely liberating about riding through remote countryside or alongside distant beaches in a foreign country, the wind against your face and everything back home so far away from you. If you're thinking of taking an overseas motorbike holiday then we fully encourage it, but we do also urge you to be prepared.
Riding a motorbike can be extremely dangerous, even for the most experienced riders. Even if you are riding as safe as you can and think that you are not taking any risks, you can never be sure of the state of the other drivers on the road. In the vast majority of motorbike accidents, it is another driver who has made a mistake or not seen you on the road. Even by riding on your own street at home you are taking some pretty big risks, let alone being in a completely foreign country.
When we travel overseas everything changes. The road rules are different - if not seemingly inexistent! Speed limits, over-taking and lane changing take on completely different meanings, and if you're not used to the roads then it can be overwhelming and at times terrifying.
We enjoy a level of personal space when we ride or drive in Australia. Everyone sticks to his or her lane and there is a general understanding and courtesy with other drivers. If you are not prepared then you will get a big shock riding through countries like Vietnam where trucks can swing around corners without any warning, or India where you can pretty much drive wherever your vehicle fits on the road.
Because of these differences, the risks involved in riding overseas increase dramatically. If you don't have sufficient sports insurance then a travel accident overseas could end up completely ruining your holiday and leaving you with a financial burden that may last for years.
Many people don't consider the fact that once you leave Australian shores your normal health insurance cover will not cover a thing, so you are essentially leaving yourself high and dry. Travel insurance will cover unlimited medical and hospital expenses, as well as emergency assistance including ambulance cover, so if you do have an accident you have some level of protection.
With 24 hour emergency assistance, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, a huge weight is lifted off your shoulders. Make sure that you are covered by sufficient travel insurance well before you travel so that you can relax and enjoy your holiday.
