Motorbike Accident Insurance
When we are travel overseas we tend to do things that we wouldn't usually do back at home. We try bizarre food, we get right out of our comfort zone, and we may do some adventure activities while we travel. These are all aspects of adventure travel, and may be the factor that makes your trip exciting, unique and memorable.
The risk is that we tend not to think as much about what could go wrong, and as we are a long distance from home we are also a long way from the comforts we enjoy in Australia such as health insurance, English language, road rules and a legal system that we know and understand. This is why having travel insurance when we go overseas is so important.
Amongst the adventurous things that Aussie travellers do when overseas, riding motorbikes and scooters is one of the most popular. In almost any destination you will be able to hire or buy motorbikes or scooters and travel by bike. If you are an experienced rider this is a fantastic way of seeing a new destination and getting from A to B. In many destinations you will not even need a full car licence let alone a motorbike licence to hire a bike or scooter.
This means that ever year hundreds of travellers with little or no experience hire motorbikes, and plenty of these people end up having accidents. In order to be covered by your travel insurance you must have a full riders licence issued in Australia that is also valid for the country that you are riding in.
If you do have a valid licence, this certainly doesn't mean that you should go without overseas medical and health insurance. Serious accidents can happen to even the most experienced of riders anywhere in the world. This goes for riding at home as well, however when we are overseas our normal health insurance won't cover us, so it is crucial that you have medical insurance for adventure travel if you are going to be riding a motorbike or scooter overseas.
Travel insurance will not only cover any accident related to riding a motorbike or scooter, but it will also cover any other illness or accident that may happen to you while you are overseas. As your normal medical and health insurance won't cover overseas incidents it is important that you have yourself adequately insured when you go away.
If you are planning on riding a motorbike or scooter overseas, or even if there's a small possibility that you might, make sure you purchase adequate medical and health insurance to cover accidents. You wouldn't go without any health insurance at home, so don't take the risk of leaving yourself unprotected when you go away.
