The Weekend Gateway
It's too hard to organise. A weekend is too short for a holiday. I couldn't possibly get away somewhere worthwhile for just two days. Sound familiar? These are the voices in your head that need to be put to rest! A weekend is exactly what it sounds - the end of the week, a time to enjoy - not a time to sit around and wait for the next week to arrive. Unfortunately for full-time workers it is drilled into us that if we only deserve a few weeks of holidays a year, and many of us just don't get around to 'making the effort' to head off somewhere different for a weekend, but really it's the easiest way to get a much needed quick break. You need to train yourself not to think twice about it. Here are a few of the thought patterns that need to be stopped in their tracks and why:
'I don't think I have the time'This is not true. You have two full days and two nights if you make the most of it. No matter what state or city or town you live in, Australia is one of those countries where you are always close to a great getaway place. All it will take is a bit of motivation and you will realise that a couple of hours driving is really not that bad. And if that doesn't float your boat then how about flying interstate to check out a city you rarely know? It won't take much time to organise, and travel time will be minimal. Trust me, it's worth it.
'I couldn't afford it'A weekender holiday doesn't have to be costly at all. Domestic flights are so cheap at the moment you'd be crazy not to go for them. Just follow the sales rather than choosing your destination and you'll be able to get some great travel deals that will save you loads. Otherwise, for a good budget weekender there is always camping. On top of being a cheap option, a camping getaway is a lot of fun. And if you don't do tents then just do a bit of research and you'll find many camping areas that offer reasonably priced cabins - luxury!
'I wouldn't know where to go'A weekender getaway doesn't have to be a massive holiday. You don't have to go overseas or even interstate, you don't have to do any touristy things, and you definitely don't have to make a big deal of it! Just going to the coast for a night or two or getting out of the city and staying at a little B&B can be exactly what you need to relax. A camping trip with friends for a few nights can really help you forget about work and make the most of what the weekend is supposed to be.
So stop letting your thoughts keep you cooped up inside and get out there and take that little getaway you know you desperately need!
