Reduce Your Risk with Annual Travel Insurance

>> Reduce the Risk with Annual Travel Insurance

If you're travelling frequently or for long periods of time, the odds are increased that some incident will occur to either spoil or trash the party. Therefore your need for comprehensive cover is increased. For great value, look for low cost annual travel insurance that actually keeps you covered for 18 months, and for policies that are easily extended or renewable while you're away.

You can pick up a cheap online quote direct from a number of travel insurance companies, but be sure to carefully check and compare each policy document, as the amount you may claim for each incident and other vital points can vary.

A Dash of Paranoia Never Hurt

Aside from accident and sickness, theft is a key cause for concern for most travellers. It's certainly not isolated to a handful of countries though, and you need to keep your wits about you whether you're travelling the UK, Egypt or Canada - as much as you would need to around Australia.

Take these tips on board:

  • Secure your money, credit card or traveller's cheques and documents in a safe place. A money belt under your clothing is always the better option for the majority of your valuables, but keep what cash you need for that day, and your card if necessary, in a secure wallet or zipped pocket rather than flashing your belt in public. Sure, everyone knows there is a good chance you have a money belt, but it is still an excellent deterrent.
  • Keep photocopies of all your documents including passport, credit or student cards, travel insurance policy and any 'hot-line' numbers.
  • Never leave your bag and luggage unattended in public places. Most of us know this is an absolute at railway stations and airports but few stop to think about beaches, parks and the like. Also, don't leave your luggage with anyone you have just met. On your insurance policy you'll find this comes under 'unattended' or 'deserted' luggage.
  • Don't wear expensive jewellery in crowded or high risk places - better still, don't even take it with you. Also consider leaving that expensive watch at home and purchase an inexpensive one for your trip.
  • Never consider any of your luggage or personal possessions safe if they are locked in your rental car overnight. If they are stolen, you'll soon discover your insurance company doesn't consider it a safe location and chances are you will not be covered by your annual travel insurance.
